Hotels Options:

 

1. Hostel / Lodge

 

This is the economyoption - a shared room in a local lodge / hostel in the heart of a village in the Shaolin Tourist Area. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and there is a lagre dining hall on site serving a range of local dishes. From here, It is about a 10 minute walk to the Shaolin Temple Wu Shu Training Centre, our training venue.

 

2. Jinpeng Ecology Hotel

 

The Jinpeng Ecology Hotel http://www.jinpengecologyhotel.com/en/index.asp, is the best in the district. It is set in parklands at the foot of the Song Mountains. Either twin share or single rooms are available. The hotel is about half an hour by taxi form training venue. We will arrange all transfers. (Note: Our prices will be less than those listed on the hotel website).

3. Yongtai Temple Experience

 

The historic Yongtai Temple was originally built by Princess Yongtai, the daughter of an Emperor, more than 1,500 years ago. Over the subsequent centuries the Buddhist nuns practised the same traditional Shaolin Gong Fu as the Shaolin monks. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, and the hotel accommodation (http://hotel.elong.net/dengfeng/41719005/ ) was recently renovated. There is also a wonderful vegetarian restaurant on site. The hotel is about fifteen minutes by taxi from the training venue. 4. Zhao Jian Shan Ju

 

Zhao Jian Shan Ju hotel is located in a picturesque setting at the foot of the Song Mountains. http://zhaojianshanju.com/. This is a low rise accommodation and meditation complex, comprising a series of villas and accommodation wings set in luxuriant gardens against a background of rugged peaks. The accommodation here is very comfortable and the on-site vegetarian restaurant is fabulous. Every evening there is an outdoor concert next to the hotel - the 'Zen Music Ritual'. This performance is quite an extravaganza that involves more than 50 Kung Fu performers. It is about seven kilometers from the Shaolin Temple. 2. Dining Out:

Lunches in Shaolin Temple Wu Shu Training Centre Dining Hall. For dinner we will explore the local restaurants.

3. Dining Experience:

Lunches in Shaolin Temple Wu Shu Training Centre Dining Hall. For dinner we will explore the districts finer restaurants.

4. Mixed:

This program combines various elements of the above according to your individual preferences.

 

Culture and History:

 

Option 1. Standard

 All participants in Shaolin.Life Programs will be taken on a tour of the Shaolin Temple, the famous Shaolin Pagoda forest, and to a Gong Fu presentation by the acclaimed Shaolin Temple Wu Shu Training Centre Performance Team.

In addition, you will be introduced to the Art of Chinese Tea.

Option 2. Ancient wonders

Following your afternoon training session, you will visit some of districts celebrated historical sites.

(1).Songyue Pagoda

The Songyue Temple Pagoda is the only remaining structure from the magnificent Buddhist temple that used to occupy the rest of the site. it is said that the famous (and only) Chinese Empress, Wu Zetian, used to stay here on her sojourns away from the capital. This remarkable structure was built an amazing 1,492 years ago, in 523 CE. It is the oldest brick pagoda in China. It is forty metres high, and has a unique twelve sided structure. I

(2).Zhongyue T emple

The original Temple structure here was built here around 221 BCE, during the Qin dynasty. Zhongyue is a Taoist Temple, nestled in the beautiful surrounds of the Song Mountains. These mountains have a special significance in Taoism. The Temple was later extensively renovated by the Qing (1644 to 1912). This site in a treasure trove of wonders for Chinese history buffs. There are over 400 historic buildings in the complex, hundreds of ancient cypresses that were first planted during Han Dynasty and artefacts from the Tang, Song, Jing, Ming and Qing Dynasties.

(3).Huishan Temple

 This small temple is one of the oldest in China (which means its really old)! The exact date of its construction in not known, but it was sometime during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE to 220 CE). We do know that it was first renovatedin 326 CE. The temple is nestled in the quite serene surrounds of the Song Mountains. Huishan was the home of one of Chinas most famous Chan (Zen) Masters, Dao An. Huishan is also renown for its delightful setting, and excellent fengshui.

(4).Gaocheng Astronomical Observatory

Ancient Chinese astronomers were making their observation at Gaocheng about 1,000 years BCE. The World Heritage listed structure that stands at Gaocheng today dates from about 1266. It is the oldest in China.The observatory was commissioned by the Emperor Khublai Khan, and it was here that the famous Chinese astronomer Guo Shoujing calculated a year to be 365.2425 days (a mere 26 seconds off the year's current measurement, and about 300 years before the European Gregorian calendar.
