About Shaolin Kungfu

More than 1500 years ago, an emperor gave the order to translate the Indian Buddhism into Chinese. He gave to the monks a piece of land of magical beauty at the foot of Songshan Mount. They called it Shaolin which means wooded hill. An Indian monk named Darma meditated for ten years in a cave above the monastery, reshaped the Buddhism and called it Zen. He taught the monks to deepen their feature reality and to train their bodies. Strict discipline and permanent training made them to develop special exercises deserve to defend their monastery. They called them Kungfu.

Darma’s teachings oblige the monks to use their fight skills exclusively to defend themselves, but never to attack others. Thus, the monks serve the emperor but never indeed them to offense the empire. They put down rebellions and drove out of invaders. But they always decline the office honor and posts and remained their monastery to defect skills and to serve the Buddha.

For hundreds of years, our temple was the spiritual center of China. Many emperors was afraid of the power of monastery, they chased the monks away and burned down the monastery. But the spirit and the teachings of Zen lived on the spirit of the monks and disciples, which found refugee outside the world of the monastery. This is how the kungfu became the mother of all the martial arts on this planet.
